SUMMARY
Carry out the day-to-day operations of the QHSE department and contribute to the application of effective Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental management by providing support. Monitor health and safety, assess risk, and design strategies to reduce potential hazards within an assigned workplace or geographic area.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Safety Officer maintains awareness of active and developing situations.
- Participate in planning meetings to identify any health and safety concerns in the operation’s daily work-plan.
- Ensure preparation and implementation of Site Safety and Health Plan.
- Conducts toolbox meetings and supervises departmental technical TBT for safe works
- The Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations.
- The safety officer reviews and approves all subcontractor’s safety plans.
- Conducts investigations of all accidents and near-misses.
- Review the Incident Action Plan for safety implications.
- Implement corrective actions to mitigate unsafe acts/ conditions
- Conducts job hazard analysis and responds to employees’ safety concerns.
- May exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is required.
- Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment.
- Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related government agencies.
- Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use.
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Carry out PTW Monitoring and review
- Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, etc.).
- Watches out for the safety of all workers and works to protect them from entering hazardous situations.
- Ensure proper waste management (Waste segregation, storage, and disposal)
- Responds to employees’ safety concerns and serves as the link between employees and site management
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or equivalent
- NEBOSH IGC qualified
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office environment including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
EXPERIENCE
Prefer an Associate Degree/Diploma in NEBOSH Health & Safety environment or a minimum of 3 years experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety position, technical report writing is a plus.
