Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital sought to significantly reduce energy consumption while improving the reliability of its critical cooling infrastructure. ENGIE Solutions conducted a comprehensive energy audit and identified a series of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), including the replacement of 10 legacy chillers with high-efficiency models.
ENGIE Solutions successfully delivered the full chiller replacement, installing 10 high-efficiency Carrier chillers and integrating them into our Smart Operations & Maintenance (Smart O&M) framework via the SmartBox platform. This created a fully connected IoT ecosystem capable of capturing real-time operational data across the cooling plant. Beyond the hardware upgrade, ENGIE deployed advanced machine learning models using Databricks to analyse circuit temperatures, compression ratios, and environmental conditions. These insights generate predictive Asset Health Scores and proactive maintenance recommendations, enabling data-driven decision-making and enhanced asset reliability.
The upgraded chiller plant achieved a marked improvement in energy performance, with the new chillers delivering an 8% reduction in operational costs compared to the previous Cool Wave chillers, alongside improved Energy Efficiency Ratios (EER) and reduced environmental impact.
Project Highlights & Safety Excellence
Safety meeting conducted with all associates, followed by comprehensive safety checks before commencing lifting activities.
The retrofit was executed in a live hospital environment under the highest Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards. Works included heavy lifting operations using a 100-ton crane, supported by third-party crane certification, certified riggers, a designated flagman, approved lifting permits, and full POWRA implementation with clearly demarcated exclusion zones. The project was completed safely, efficiently, and without disruption to critical hospital operations.
